What Are Cookies and Tracking Technologies
- Cookies are small text files stored on a browser or device when a website or platform is accessed. Cookies may enable systems to recognise devices, maintain secure sessions, preserve user preferences, improve functionality, and support analytics or security operations.
- SDKs are software components embedded within mobile applications that enable operational features such as analytics, push notifications, authentication, crash reporting, and app functionality.
- Similar technologies may include pixels, local storage objects, device identifiers, tags, scripts, and related technologies used for operational, analytical, security, communication, or performance purposes.
-
Certain tracking technologies operate only during an active session, while others may remain stored on a device for a longer period unless deleted or disabled by the user.
- Tracking technologies may be deployed directly by Vegacart or by authorised third-party service providers integrated with the Services.
How Tracking Technologies Are Used
- Vegacart uses tracking technologies across different components of the Services, including the website, Shopify integrations, Merchant dashboards, and merchant mobile applications generated through the platform.
- Tracking technologies may be used for secure authentication, maintaining account sessions, synchronising store data, supporting mobile app functionality, enabling supporting checkout functionality, delivering push notifications, analysing platform usage, improving performance, monitoring stability, preventing fraud or misuse, supporting customer engagement functionality, and improving the Services.
- Certain tracking technologies may also be used to remember user preferences, maintain shopping cart functionality, support login persistence, and improve navigation and user experience.
Categories of Tracking Technologies
- Essential and Functional Technologies - Certain cookies, SDKs, and related technologies are necessary for the secure and proper functioning of the Services. These technologies support core operational features including authentication, security, fraud prevention, network management, payment-related functionality, shopping cart functionality, and platform stability.
- Analytics and Performance Technologies - Vegacart may use analytics and diagnostic technologies to collect aggregated, statistical, diagnostic, usage, or device-related information relating to the performance and operation of the Services. This information helps the Company monitor system performance,
troubleshoot technical issues, improve compatibility, and optimise user experience. - Merchant Engagement and Optimization Technologies - The Services may provide Merchants with engagement metrics and operational analytics relating to usage of their mobile applications, including general interaction patterns, engagement activity, and app performance metrics.
- Communication and Notification Technologies - The Services may use technologies required to support push notifications, transactional communications, customer engagement workflows, loyalty communications, and abandoned cart reminders within Merchant mobile applications.
Third-Party Technologies and Integrations
- The Services may integrate with third-party platforms, services, applications, app stores, APIs, analytics providers, payment providers, communication tools, and external software environments including Shopify, Apple App Store, and Google Play Store.
- Such third-party platforms and providers may independently deploy their own cookies, SDKs, or tracking technologies in accordance with their own policies and operational requirements.
- Vegacart does not control the independent tracking technologies, privacy practices, or data processing activities of third-party platforms, providers, or integrations.
-
Merchants remain solely responsible for evaluating, configuring, enabling, and lawfully using any third-party advertising, analytics, marketing, attribution, or tracking technologies independently activated within their stores or mobile applications, including ensuring that all legally required disclosures, permissions, and consents are obtained from end users.
Consent and User Choices
- Vegacart implements reasonable data minimisation and purpose limitation practices in connection with tracking technologies used within the Services.
- Where required under applicable law, non-essential tracking technologies may be deployed only after obtaining appropriate consent from users.
- Users may manage, restrict, or disable certain non-essential tracking technologies through available browser settings, device settings, operating system permissions, consent banners, or application-level controls.
- Mobile device users may manage tracking permissions, notification permissions, or app-level privacy controls through their device operating system settings.
- Disabling certain tracking technologies may affect the availability, functionality, security, performance, or operation of portions of the Services.
Relationship with Personal Data
-
To the extent that information collected through cookies, SDKs, or similar technologies constitutes personal data or can reasonably be associated with an identifiable individual, such information shall be processed in accordance with the Vegacart Privacy Policy and applicable law, including the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.
International Processing
- Due to the global and cloud-based nature of the Services, information collected through tracking technologies may be processed, stored, or transferred across jurisdictions where privacy laws may differ from those applicable in the user’s jurisdiction.
- Vegacart shall take reasonable steps to implement appropriate safeguards where required under applicable law.
